Advocacy
The
Community Health Services (Saskatoon) Association Ltd. speaks out publicly
about the issues that affect the well-being of our members, clients and
the community.
In particular:
-
We
believe that health services people need should be:
-
universal;
-
accessible;
-
comprehensive;
-
portable;
and
-
publicly
administered.
-
We
recognize that social and economic factors such as racism and poverty
can profoundly compromise the heath of the people we serve.
-
We
support the further development of consumer sponsored primary health
care centres in our province and nation.
-
We
are also concerned about how the environment impacts on the health and
well-being of people.
Through
the efforts of our Board and staff and often in collaboration with the
Saskatchewan Community Co-operative Health Federation, the Saskatchewan
Health Coalition and other organizations our organization takes every
opportunity to lobby local, provincial and federal decision makers on
these issues.
The
Board of Directors has a Political and Social Action Committee.
It meets regularly to identify key issues that the Association
should take action on and to act on resolutions and other directions
provided by the membership of the Association.
In
addition the CHSA has an Advocacy Network.
The purpose of the Advocacy Network is to provide members with
organized information and support so that they will be able to act in an
informed way to defend and promote publicly funded health care and to
support other health related actions.
