50th Anniversary Coming Up!

The Community Clinic and medicare are almost 50 years old!  We invite you, our members, staff and clients, to a member forum to provide ideas on our celebrations on Thursday, August 4th 2011, 7 to 9:30 p.m., 424 1st Avenue North Registration begins as 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there! Annual Meeting 2011

The 70 members in attendance at our June 21st Annual Meeting elected 5 new board members: Dalton Cameron, Sheena Rowan, Elizabeth Scott, Lisa White and Derek Wilkinson. Ron Wheeler was re-elected for a second term.  Wendy Wilson was elected to the Focus Editorial committee.  Three resolutions were passed on the following topics: affordable housing; federal anti-smoking policies; and the Comprehensive Economic Trade Agreement.  Thank you to the following outgoing board members for their valued service and commitment to co-operative values: Don Bear, Nancy Carmichael; Kathy Cram; Jason Cruickshank and Wendy Wilson. Fitness, Food and Fun Celebrates its Fifth Birthday!

Participants, peer leaders and partners in Fitness, Food and Fun (Triple F Program) celebrated the fifth anniversary of the program at a ceremony on June 28th.  The program, offered in partnership with several agencies addresses the well-being of members of the urban Aboriginal community who are at risk of developing diabetes or who have diabetes.  Congratulations everyone on your very successful program which is now being used as a model for other chronic disease programs in our health region.

The Birthplace of Medicare: A Historical Walking Tour of Saskatoon

Having visitors from out of town this summer? Looking for an interesting historic walk?  Print out Saskatoon: The Birthplace of Medicare and take the tour! As you take this historic self-guided walk through Saskatoon’s downtown you can almost hear the fiery debates that took place that took place in 1962 and the voices and hope that established medicare and Community Clinic in our province.
