Resolutions - CHSA Annual Meeting – June 11, 2003

Resolution #1  Vision Care Department

Be it resolved that the Saskatoon Community Clinic put in place a committee to provide direction and support to the Vision Care Department; and

Be it further resolved that this committee be composed of one member of the Board and equal representation from CUPE Local 974 and CHSA management.

Amendment: Be it further resolved that this committee be composed of one member of the Board, and equal representation from CUPE Local 974 and CHSA management, and membership; and that the committee be empowered to add on expertise members as necessary.

Resolution #2  Acting for the Good of Members

Be it resolved that we support CHSA Board, who are our elected members, in their duties and responsibilities to act for the good of all members.

Resolution #3  Repeal the Patented Medicines Regulations

Be it resolved that members of the Community Health Services (Saskatoon) Association Ltd. call upon the Government of Canada to repeal the Patented Medicines (Notice of Compliance) Regulations of Canada's Patent Act since they allow brand-name drug manufacturers to prolong the patent monopoly beyond the 20-year term;

Be it further resolved that we also urge the Government of Canada to support the recommendation of the Romanow Commission which calls for improved access to generic drugs, and to take into account the views of the electorate, not just those of the pharmaceutical industry.

Resolution #4  Electing Community Members to Health Authority Boards

Be it resolved that the Government of Saskatchewan move to create a democratic model of citizen participation that provides a democratic process for electing community members to health authority boards;

And further be it resolved that the board have minimum representation of at least two (2) individuals from minority groups, representation of at least 50% men and women, one (1) youth representative, two (2) representatives from the emplo0yee groups and other groups as designated by the citizens advisory group;

And further be it resolved that all minutes and reports with respect to the activities and meetings of health authorities be made publicly available through such sources as the Internet and libraries and all meeting dates posted and the public be allowed to attend.

Resolution #5  Supporting the Political Action Group on Poverty

Be it resolved that the Saskatoon Community Clinic write a letter to the Premier of the Province and Minister of Social Services supporting the recommendations of the Political Action Group on Poverty and the Saskatoon Anti-Poverty Coalition that call for a 35% increase in social assistance rates and an annual indexing to the cost of living;

And be it further resolved that the Saskatoon Community Clinic consider sending a formal representative to join the Saskatoon Anti-Poverty Coalition.

Resolution #6  Promoting Women as Keynote Speakers

Be it resolved that the membership of the Community Clinic direct its Board and Administration to flag the lack of participation by women as speakers in public health care forums, and do all in their power to promote women as keynote speakers at events which the Clinic plays a planning role.
