Resolution
#4 Food Safety
Whereas
processed food increasingly includes ingredients manufactured and sourced
from all over the world, including countries with inadequate or
non-existent health and food purity laws;
And
whereas Canada does not at present adequately and consistently test
imported food products or require labelling that indicates the source of
ingredients;
Be
it resolved that CHSA encourage the Federal Government to:
- Investigate
threats to food safety from increased use of imported, un-inspected
ingredients.
- Expand
inspection and testing of imported food products.
- Require
labelling that indicates the country of origin of all ingredients in
processed foods.
- Encourage
local production for local consumption.
